A month in the life of The Ginge - WTMX Party in the Park, Benfest and McGee's Recap

Howdy there Gingers!!

Well it's been about a month since our last blog and we've had a BUSY one!!  Lots going on in the summer for The Ginge and thanks to all of you who have come out to support us!  You guys are great.  Here's what's happened since we last reported.

McGee's - June 19
A Rare Thursday night show for the boys at our long standing "regular" spot.   And what a crowd!!  The placed was packed from the first song and stayed that way all night as the dance floor rocked HARD through over 35 songs and 3 hours plus of stone cold grooves and hot jams.   Some beautiful people in the crowd too.  Lincoln Park is a wonderful place to play!   Waking up Friday??  Not so good....

WTMX Party in the Park - July 10
The Ginge can't catch a break at this place.   After being blessed with bookings on this awesome Bud sponsored outside stage located right next to the Bean in Millennium Park the past two years, we were cursed yet again with freak storms and a cancellation (not only of our set but also the 2 acts that were to follow us).    Woke up in the morning to a gorgeous clear sky, mid 70's day.  About 1pm the clouds started rolling in.  Then the skies darkened and finally, at about 3:55, 5 minutes prior to taking the stage, they opened and the rain spat until late in the evening.     We made the best of it with Kent from Chicago Special Events and Bibby and the boys from the sound company - great guys who take good care of us a these festival gigs.    MANY MANY thanks to our friends and family who cut out of work or otherwise schlepped themselves downtown to see us only to be welcomed by a barren stage a slate skies.   And thanks for hanging out with us under the umbrellas at Park Grille and tipping a few back to honor Mother Nature once we knew we were cancelled.  Also a big thanks to the Big K for lining us up again at this one.   Here's hoping the 4th time is the charm next year.

BenFest - July 12th
Now THAT's more like it!!!  Stunning summer evening in the city playing a nice 90 minute set in front of attentive and appreciative Chicagoans on a nice stage.    Very nice set and great feedback from the crowd as we mixed some familar and not so familiar covers into our usual stew of originals.   Good to meet the guys from Hello Dave, who followed us and rocked it hard.  Great band there and one we've always admired.  They couldn't have been nicer and sounded superb as usual.    MVP award goes to Singin' Dave with an assist from Carmo for showing up with the cooler of beer for backstage - a gesture much appreciated by stagehands and band members alike.  Props to Preston for hooking us up with that one.  Of course, after delivering such a fine set, drawing in the crowd and otherwise leading the positive vibrations around the stage that night, we now expect to get some more bookings from you P!  :)

McGee's - July 18th
Another late night at this Chicago institution.  Started out pretty slow with not many folks in attendance for our first set, but by the witching hour the place was rockin' full tilt as we are accustomed.   If you haven't seen The Ginge at McGee's, you should come check it out for the scenery alone.  And lord knows the smell alone brings back plenty of memories of your rollicking yoot as they say.   Waking up Saturday morning?  Not so good.....

Again thanks to all of you who make these shows so much fun.   We'll look forward to seeing you in your skimpy summer finest again this Saturday at noon at Taste of Lincoln Avenue.  Saturday at noon is drinkin' time, right?  Yer darn tootin'!!
