Taste of Lincoln Park and other doings - 7/27/08 Blog

For the second year in a row, The Ginge graced the stages at Taste of Lincoln Park and wowed the crowd with our eclectic mix of original music and our original take on many favorites.
This one came off with none of the weather problems we experienced for the WTMX Party in the Park - brilliant sunny skies, 85 degrees F with a nice breeze. Just a beautiful summer day in the fine city of Chicago.
We were MOST happy to be back at this Chicago Festival institution! Although our 90 minute set turned into more of a 75 minute set due to the sound not quite being set at our performance time, we still managed to rock out some strong material, aided greatly by our comrades at horns Mitch and Joe, who just slayed on the horns and background vox for us Saturday. These guys are true pros, and I expect you'll be seeing more of them in the months to come.
And how about the older couple dancing in front for much of the set? That 80 something year old dude with the short shorts, work boots and gypsy bandana was a TRIP! I can only hope I have as much JuJu when I'm that age! Work it Daddy! Lots of kids joining the fray and quite a bit of nice movement and knowing glances from the 20-something club-girl lovelies manning the DJ tent to the west of the stage. Wow.....
Other highlights included the occasional "L" passing overhead, the keg tapped when we got off stage and again , the horns for making us sound so much better and schooling us in how to be a pro.
Anyway, unless we get a call, this ends our Street Fair Run this year. And a heck of run it was thanks to our own Dougy "JohnBones" Johnson, Chicago Special Events, Preston and others. Very rarely do bands get to play multiple street fairs in one summer, but The Ginge managed to knock out 5 of them before August (if you count the Millennium Park engagement). We must be doing something right! Now you'll just have to come catch us in the usual dark bars and venues at times less friendly to your bedtime.
Thanks again to all of you good people for supporting our good time brand of music. We're just a bunch of huckleberries slapping at instruments without ya! Well...maybe we still are. But, Hey - it's all in a days work for your favorite group of good rockin fellas.
Now onto a busy end of summer and fall schedule. We'll keep y'all posted!
